Professional Profile

Picture
I am currently the Director of Active Learning at El Paso Independent School District. As a Director, I have a wonderful opportunity to work with the Active Learning Leaders across the district. Our goal, as a team, is to ensure that there is consistent communication, meaningful and relevant collaboration, and rigorous curriculum planning and implementation in campuses, as we work with and coach teachers in their successful delivery of content in classrooms.

Prior to this job, I was an Assistant Principal at an elementary school in Socorro Independent School District, where I had the opportunity to create a positive and meaningful teaching and learning environment among students, faculty and staff. Likewise, I was part of the first year of implementation of the WIN Academy program in my school, which served and supported the academic and motivational needs of students who are identified as at-risk.

From 2012 to 2016, I was an Assistant Principal at two different elementary campuses with Ysleta Independent School District, where I have honed my skills as an innovative instructional leader. I have obtained a variety of professional development and learning experiences that have tremendously increased and solidified my knowledge and expertise as an innovative and forward thinking educator. In the fourteen years that I have dedicated in this school district, I also had the experience to be the Virtual School Developer. One of the main responsibilities in this particular job is to ensure that online students are successful in their learning experiences in a virtual learning environment, where problem-based and project-based learning served as the essential components to motivate and engage students, as well develop rigor in the traditional curriculum. Another important responsibility included providing online teachers and course developers with quality professional development that focused on best practices for online teaching and targeted instructional design for online course development.

Furthermore, I was an Instructional Technology Trainer and served on the Social Studies Instructional Team in the same school district. I completed the Virtual Instructor Certification Program (VICP) at the Texas A & M University online. With the knowledge and skills and technological expertise that I acquired from my learning and work experiences, I was able to promote the development and implementation of 21st century learning through the establishment of a virtual school environment in YISD. I believe that this learning environment supported the development of effective teaching methodologies and innovative technologies that are necessary to address the individualized needs of today's generation of students.
